Marriage, Divorce, and Remarriage

Genesis 2:24 A man … shall cleave to his wife; and they shall be one flesh.
Isa 50:1,2 God gives Israel ‘bill of divorce’ (but restores all of Israel in the end times, Rev.)
Eccl 5:4-6 Can’t say that      a vow was     a ‘mistake’ or ‘error’.
Mal 2:14-16 God hates divorce.    Considers marriage a ‘covenant’.
Hosea 1:2,3; 3:1; 13:9; 14:4-8 Hosea redeems and restores adulterous Gomer.
Matt 5:32 Whoever divorces a spouse

                    ‘causes them to commit adultery’ and

1 Cor 7:8,9 To the unmarried (cp. v.10,11) & widows

let them marry. It is better to marry than to burn [with passion]

7:10 To the married I command, yet not I, but the Lord

Let not the wife divorce her husband

7:11 If she divorces

1) Remain unmarried

2) Be reconciled

7:12-14 Believer with an unbelieving spouse commanded

Not to Divorce the unbelieving spouse

7:15, 16 If the unbelieving Spouse leaves [Divorces] the Believer,

Let the unbelieving spouse depart

Believer is not under bondage (servitude), but called to ‘peace’. see v39 for reference to ‘liberty’.

7:25,26 Concerning Virgins, male & female - it is good to remain a virgin because of the present distressing times
7:27 But, bound to a wife, do not seek to be loosed. See v10

Loosed from the bonds of marriage (unbound, i.e. unmarried, bachelor/widower ‘Nicol, Expos. Gk Test.; also New Int’l Comm.) Do not seek a wife.  [some believe this can also refer to divorced persons]

7:28 But, if the unmarried does marry, or the virgin female marries, they have not sinned. [except if the divorce was 'illegitimate',   see Matt 5 etc.]
1 Cor 7:39 The wife is bound by the law as long as her husband lives.

If the husband is dead, she is at liberty to be married (a believer).
